MR. RIFKIN'S 7TH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS CLASS

This week will be devoted to Vocabulary # 4 (pages 51-57), and the continuation of the seven (7) uses of nouns. We have already discussed subjects, subject complements (predicate nominatives and predicate adjectives), direct and indirect objects . This week we will discuss objects of prepositions , object complements and appositives . Although we will not have school on Thursday, we will still have the regular vocabulary quiz on Friday, October 6th. We will have "A" days on Tuesday and Wednesday. Monday: Introduce Vocabulary #4 (pages 51 - 57) Begin the first 10minutes working on the vocabulary. This will be completed for homework. Introduce nouns used as objects of prepositions. Students will complete page 6 for a class work grade. Tuesday: Go over vocabulary homework for a homework grade. Continue with nouns as objects  complements and appositives. This week is devoted to finishing the film, The Outsiders,  and continuing with the grammar pages 3 -7 including nouns as direct objects, indirect objects, objects of the preposition, and object complements. Students will have classwork and homework relating to these topics. There will not be a vocabulary unit this week due to an early dismissal on Friday for Yom Kippur .** I plan to meet with the students, individually, to discuss their compare / contrast essays the latter part of this week and the beginning of the next week. Monday: Finish watching the film, The Outsiders . If we do not get it done today, we will finish it in the next class period. Tuesday: Finish the film, if necessary. Begin the uses of nouns with page 4 and 5. Go over what a direct object is and what an indirect object is. Go over pages 4 and 5 for class work. Have students practice sentences on the board. This week will be devoted to Vocabulary Unit 3 quiz, and the film "The Outsiders". Due to Rosh Hashanah, this week will be abbreviated. The compare / contrast essay will also be due, as well. Monday: Due to last week's schedule being affected by Hurricane Irma, the Vocabulary quiz # 3 will be given today instead of last Friday.  Students will hand in their compare / contrast essays today. Tuesday: Begin watching the film "The Outsiders". We will finish the film when we return from Rosh Hashanah holiday. Wednesday: Today will be an abbreviated day (students are dismissed at noon). There will be a special program, celebrating Rosh Hashanah. (No regular classes) Thursday: School Closed (Rosh Hashanah) Friday: School Closed (Rosh Hashanah)

This week will be devoted to going over The Outsiders test, Vocabulary # 3 (pages 35 -41), beginning the grammar unit (Parts of Speech), and a follow-up writing assignment related to The Outsiders. Monday : Unit # 3 Vocabulary (pages 35 -41) The first 10 minutes, students will begin this in class. They will finish it for homework, We will go over the answers to The Outsiders test. We will discuss what a "noun" is. Students will be bringing their "grammar workbooks" to class for class work and homework for the next few weeks.  Students will be given the assignment of writing a compare / contrast essay on choosing a character from The Outsiders and someone in their life. More on that will be discussed throughout the week. Homework: Finish Vocabulary (pages 35-41) and pages 1 and 2 in the Grammar workbook .
