Week of October 2 - 6, 2017

This week will be devoted to Vocabulary # 4 (pages 51-57), and the continuation of the seven (7) uses of nouns. We have already discussed subjects, subject complements (predicate nominatives and predicate adjectives), direct and indirect objects. This week we will discuss objects of prepositions, object complements and appositives. Although we will not have school on Thursday, we will still have the regular vocabulary quiz on Friday, October 6th. We will have "A" days on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Monday: Introduce Vocabulary #4 (pages 51 - 57) Begin the first 10minutes working on the vocabulary. This will be completed for homework. Introduce nouns used as objects of prepositions. Students will complete page 6 for a class work grade.

Tuesday: Go over vocabulary homework for a homework grade. Continue with nouns as objects  complements and appositives. Do pages 7 , 8 and 9 for a class work grade. Begin to review all 7 uses of nouns. Students will be asked to go  to the board and identify the uses of the nouns while the other students work at their seats.

Wednesday: Review Vocabulary for the Quiz on Friday. Continue reviewing the 7 uses of nouns.

Thursday: No School ( Sukkot)

Friday: The vocabulary quiz will be administered.

This week will be devoted to Vocabulary Unit 3 quiz, and the film "The Outsiders". Due to Rosh Hashanah, this week will be abbreviated. The compare / contrast essay will also be due, as well. Monday: Due to last week's schedule being affected by Hurricane Irma, the Vocabulary quiz # 3 will be given today instead of last Friday.  Students will hand in their compare / contrast essays today. Tuesday: Begin watching the film "The Outsiders". We will finish the film when we return from Rosh Hashanah holiday. Wednesday: Today will be an abbreviated day (students are dismissed at noon). There will be a special program, celebrating Rosh Hashanah. (No regular classes) Thursday: School Closed (Rosh Hashanah) Friday: School Closed (Rosh Hashanah)

Week of August 14 - 18, 2017

Welcome Back Everyone!!!! This first week is devoted to information, directions and expectations for  my 7th grade Language Arts class. Although this can be somewhat overwhelming, it is important to take one day at a time and pace yourself. I promise it will all work out in the end. Communication is very important and I urge you to check the blog regularly in order to stay on task with the classwork and the assignments. Monday: This day will basically be a day of orientation. Week Of August 21 - 25, 2017

This week will be devoted to the first Unit of Vocabulary (pages 21 - 27). There will be a quiz on the words on Friday. This will be a regular weekly pattern. We will also begin the review of the summer reading requirement, The Outsiders.   Writing practice will be an ongoing exercise as we concentrate on the "recipe" for good writing. Monday : Introduce Unit 1 of Vocabulary (pages 21 - 27). The students will have 10 minutes in the beginning of class to get started on the unit and will complete ALL pages ( 21 - 27) for homework . The remaining time left of the class will be the introduction and discussion of The Outsiders. This discussion and class work on the novel will take approximately two (2)weeks to complete. It is imperative to pay attention in class and to take any notes which will help in the understanding of the class discussions.
