Week of October 16 - 20, 2017

This week will be devoted to Vocabulary # 5 (pages 58 - 64) The quiz will be on Monday October 23 instead of the usual Friday(October 20th). Also, we will continue with our discussion on Flowers for Algernon and review of the 7 uses of the noun for a test this week or next.

Monday: Begin Vocabulary #5 (pages 58 -64) for the first 10 minutes of class. Finish for homework! Also, pages 12 and 13 (Parts A, B, C and E) in the grammar Workbook for homework
Continue with the discussion of Flowers for Algernon and pass out "7 Uses of  Noun" handout to the students for review.

Tuesday: Go over the vocabulary homework. Continue with "Flowers" and review the uses of the noun  homework. Have individual students come to the board to identify the nouns in each sentence while the students, seated, do them as well. (blocks 2 and 5)

Wednesday: (Same as Tuesday for blocks 6 and 7)  Review the uses of nouns for the test next week for block 2.

Thursday: **Finish review of the 7 uses of nouns. The scheduled date for the test is Thursday, Oct. 26th.

Friday: Review for the vocabulary quiz on Monday, October 23rd. **The test on Flowers for Algernon has been changed to Friday, October 27th.

**The dates of the two tests ( "7 uses of the noun" and Flowers for Algernon) may change, depending on the amount of time to review in class. Neither test will be administered until the students are prepared for both.

This week will be devoted to Vocabulary Unit 3 quiz, and the film "The Outsiders". Due to Rosh Hashanah, this week will be abbreviated. The compare / contrast essay will also be due, as well. Monday: Due to last week's schedule being affected by Hurricane Irma, the Vocabulary quiz # 3 will be given today instead of last Friday.  Students will hand in their compare / contrast essays today. Tuesday: Begin watching the film "The Outsiders". We will finish the film when we return from Rosh Hashanah holiday. Wednesday: Today will be an abbreviated day (students are dismissed at noon). There will be a special program, celebrating Rosh Hashanah. (No regular classes) Thursday: School Closed (Rosh Hashanah) Friday: School Closed (Rosh Hashanah)

Week of August 14 - 18, 2017

Welcome Back Everyone!!!! This first week is devoted to information, directions and expectations for  my 7th grade Language Arts class. Although this can be somewhat overwhelming, it is important to take one day at a time and pace yourself. I promise it will all work out in the end. Week Of August 21 - 25, 2017

This week will be devoted to the first Unit of Vocabulary (pages 21 - 27). There will be a quiz on the words on Friday. This will be a regular weekly pattern. We will also begin the review of the summer reading requirement, The Outsiders.   Writing practice will be an ongoing exercise as we concentrate on the "recipe" for good writing. Monday : Introduce Unit 1 of Vocabulary (pages 21 - 27). The students will have 10 minutes in the beginning of class to get started on the unit and will complete ALL pages ( 21 - 27) for homework . The remaining time left of the class will be the introduction and discussion of The Outsiders. This discussion and class work on the novel will take approximately two (2)weeks to complete. It is imperative to pay attention in class and to take any notes which will help in the understanding of the class discussions.
