Week of October 9-13, 2017

This week will be devoted to the continuation of the 7 uses of nouns with the addition of "object complements" and "appositives". Students will also receive a copy of Flowers for Algernon, our next novel, and a packet, including a reading schedule, character list and overall plot information to help students stay on task and help with their daily reading assignments.. There will be no school on Thursday (Simchat Torah/Shemini Atzeret). We will have "A" days onTuesday and Wednesday.

Monday: Vocabulary quiz #4 ( This quiz was supposed to be given last Friday, but because of Sukkot, assessments were not to be given to students). Pass out copies of Flowers for Algernon to all students, as well as, packets to help students with the daily readings.

Tuesday:  Introduce the object complement and the appositive. Do pages 7 and 8 in the grammar workbook. We will continue with this process, with the inclusion of the other 5 uses of nouns. We will review all 7 uses of nouns for a test the following week. The day will be determined after our review. Begin the discussion of Flowers for Algernon.  (Progress Reports 1-8...pages 1-34)

Wednesday:  Continue with the review of the 7 uses of nouns and the discussion of Flowers for Algernon. (Progress Reports 9 & 10...pages 34-76)

Thursday:    No School (Shemini Atzeret / Simchat Torah)

Friday: Review the 7 uses of nouns and continue with the discussion of  Flowers for Algernon (Progress Reports 11 & 12...pages 76-132).

This week will be devoted to Vocabulary Unit 3 quiz, and the film "The Outsiders". Due to Rosh Hashanah, this week will be abbreviated. The compare / contrast essay will also be due, as well. Monday: Due to last week's schedule being affected by Hurricane Irma, the Vocabulary quiz # 3 will be given today instead of last Friday.  Students will hand in their compare / contrast essays today. Tuesday: Begin watching the film "The Outsiders". We will finish the film when we return from Rosh Hashanah holiday. Wednesday: Today will be an abbreviated day (students are dismissed at noon). There will be a special program, celebrating Rosh Hashanah. (No regular classes) Thursday: School Closed (Rosh Hashanah) Friday: School Closed (Rosh Hashanah)

Week of August 14 - 18, 2017

Welcome Back Everyone!!!! This first week is devoted to information, directions and expectations for  my 7th grade Language Arts class. Although this can be somewhat overwhelming, it is important to take one day at a time and pace yourself. I promise it will all work out in the end. Week Of August 21 - 25, 2017

This week will be devoted to the first Unit of Vocabulary (pages 21 - 27). There will be a quiz on the words on Friday. This will be a regular weekly pattern. We will also begin the review of the summer reading requirement, The Outsiders.   Writing practice will be an ongoing exercise as we concentrate on the "recipe" for good writing. Monday : Introduce Unit 1 of Vocabulary (pages 21 - 27). The students will have 10 minutes in the beginning of class to get started on the unit and will complete ALL pages ( 21 - 27) for homework . The remaining time left of the class will be the introduction and discussion of The Outsiders. This discussion and class work on the novel will take approximately two (2)weeks to complete. It is imperative to pay attention in class and to take any notes which will help in the understanding of the class discussions.
