Weekly Plans for November 6 - 10, 2017

This week will be devoted to introducing adjectives ( pages 15 - 26) in the grammar workbook and working on the "finishing the story" assignment. (due Thursday, November 9th). We will also watch the movie version of  Flowers for Algernon. This film will take two class periods. There will be no vocabulary unit this week. There will be a special day of artistic programming on Friday, November 10th...no regular classes.

Monday:   Introduce the adjective. Have students come up to the board and identify the adjectives in sentences, while the students at their seats do the same. The remaining time left in the class will concentrate on quiet individual work on their stories. Homework: pages 14 and 15in the grammar workbook. This will be a homework grade.

Tuesday: Go over their homework. (pages 14-15). Begin the film: Flowers for Algernon.
(Blocks 2 and 5).

Wednesday: Same as above for blocks 6 and 7. Block 2 will finish the film. If there is any time left, students will work on their stories.

Thursday: Finish the film for blocks 5, 6and 7. Finished stories are due!

Friday:  Special "arts day" program. No regular classes!

This week will be devoted to Vocabulary Unit 3 quiz, and the film "The Outsiders". Due to Rosh Hashanah, this week will be abbreviated. The compare / contrast essay will also be due, as well. Monday: Due to last week's schedule being affected by Hurricane Irma, the Vocabulary quiz # 3 will be given today instead of last Friday.  Students will hand in their compare / contrast essays today. Tuesday: Begin watching the film "The Outsiders". We will finish the film when we return from Rosh Hashanah holiday. Wednesday: Today will be an abbreviated day (students are dismissed at noon). There will be a special program, celebrating Rosh Hashanah. (No regular classes) Thursday: School Closed (Rosh Hashanah) Friday: School Closed (Rosh Hashanah)

Week of August 14 - 18, 2017

Welcome Back Everyone!!!! This first week is devoted to information, directions and expectations for  my 7th grade Language Arts class. Although this can be somewhat overwhelming, it is important to take one day at a time and pace yourself. I promise it will all work out in the end. Communication is very important and I urge you to check the blog regularly in order to stay on task with the classwork and the assignments. Monday: This day will basically be a day of orientation. Week Of August 21 - 25, 2017

This week will be devoted to the first Unit of Vocabulary (pages 21 - 27). There will be a quiz on the words on Friday. This will be a regular weekly pattern. We will also begin the review of the summer reading requirement, The Outsiders.   Writing practice will be an ongoing exercise as we concentrate on the "recipe" for good writing. Monday : Introduce Unit 1 of Vocabulary (pages 21 - 27). The students will have 10 minutes in the beginning of class to get started on the unit and will complete ALL pages ( 21 - 27) for homework . The remaining time left of the class will be the introduction and discussion of The Outsiders. This discussion and class work on the novel will take approximately two (2)weeks to complete. It is imperative to pay attention in class and to take any notes which will help in the understanding of the class discussions.
